Biographical note: Sean's mathematical training was at the The University of Queensland and York University in Canada. His early work was on chemical gas kinetics but, when he returned to Australia to a position at the University of Newcastle, he began lecturing in Mathematical Biology as a vehicle for teaching Applied Mathematics. This led into an extensive research program concerning the applications of mathematics in Medicine and Biology. He moved to Queensland University of Technology in 1994 where some of his research students work in this area, while another group works on industrial modelling. Sean also leads the Queensland Health Care Research Group.
