Biographical note: Kerry graduated with a PhD in Mathematics from University of Melbourne and then spent six years working as an applied mathematician in USA. She returned to Melbourne to join a mathematics/statistics consulting firm before joining the University of Melbourne. Her research covers modelling changes in red blood cell shapes and the transport of radon gas into houses--a much publicised form of indoor pollution. Currently she is conducting research into the consolidation and filtration of slurries and suspensions in mineral processing. Kerry was appointed MISG Director in 1993. Now much of her time in spent describing the power and versatility of mathematics to business and industry.
