2011 Faculty of Science Review

On 10 February 2011, the University announced a review of the Faculty of Science to be conducted by Emeritus Professor Andrew Lister, Professor David Day and Steve Robertson with the following terms of reference:

  1. Alignment with University Strategy
    1. How well has the Faculty, in its operation of CORES, met the aspirations of the University?
    2. Has the addition of new CORES in Science been adequately resourced?
    3. What is the proper role of service teaching in Departments?
    4. What are the factors contributing to the loss of service teaching in Statistics, Maths and Computing and what are the risks of losing more?

  2. Teaching Profile
    1. How appropriate is the Faculty profile for the current UG and PG market?

  3. Resources
    1. How appropriate is the current Faculty Funding Model for Science?
    2. Is the funding distribution to the Departments appropriate?
    3. Is the Science budgeting process optimal and the allocation of resources appropriate?

  4. New opportunities
    1. Identify new opportunities for income generation in terms of new programs , especially PG coursework.
    2. How appropriate are the future plans for new programs.
    3. Is there appropriate funding for the development of new programs and initiatives?
